What is Self Help?

George Carlin on self help:
“I went to the bookstore and asked the salesperson, ‘where’s the self-help section?’ She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.”

This type of reality shock may be a turning point where you discover that you have to depend on you.

The turning point for most of us comes when we realize we can improve our lot in life. The moment we accept that we are not controlled by outside events; rather, we are dominated by your own thoughts and actions.

It is at this point in time that most of us turn to some sort of self help.

Webster defines self help as the action or process of bettering oneself or overcoming one’s problems without the aid of others. Changing ones self.

The Four Types of Self Help.

Self help can be designated as one of four types:

1. The AHA or epiphany moment - where a person has a dramatic moment of absolute clarity and direction. Their life pivots and is never the same.
Like the moment when an alcoholic  hits  bottom.
It is the instant when a realization impacts your consciousness, and you know that life must change and only you can change it.
It can be a moment when the solution to a problem, you’ve been struggling with, becomes crystal clear. You know without a doubt how to deal with it.

2. One on one help comes when you feel you can no longer handle the situation alone, you can no longer keep everything inside.
You may seek counseling with a psychologist, therapist, or spiritual leader.
Perhaps you simply talk to a confidant such as your best friend.

3. Group interaction.  Groups emphasize face to face interaction.
The act or state of solving one’s problems by joining or forming a group designed to help those suffering from a particular problem, such as Alcoholics Anonymous or other twelve step programs.
There are many help programs through community, churches, social groups; or paid groups such as those for weight loss and so forth.
Self help groups are voluntary. They are for the mutual aid and accomplishment of a special purpose. It is a group of peers coming together for common mutual assistance. 

4. Individual self help can be accomplished by reading and reeducating your self. You gain clarity into a problem or situation and overcome it by yourself.
It usually involves reading and studying self help books and doing research. 
Otherwise know as self improvement, self help refers to the acts of an individual to improve themselves with or without assistance from anyone else.

The term, self help, refers to any measure used to improve mental, physical, financial or spiritual conditions. By means of books or other reference materials.

It is the act of providing help for oneself without assistance from others.

Individual self help emphasizes change done by oneself, like coping with one’s personal or emotional problems without professional help.

I’ve personally participated in all four types. They are all beneficial.

I still attend meetings, conduct individual and group sessions and write self help Ebooks. Don’t limit yourself to any one.

Self help is the acquiring of information for the solving of one’s problems. Those of a psychological nature, without direct supervision of professionals or experts. Independent reading, joining lay groups pertaining to your problem.

Read a book, an article, or take a home study course that offers information or counseling intended to be personally beneficial or profitable IE: self help books.

The best way to bring about change and self improvement is to begin.

Albert Einstein said:
“Nothing happens until something moves.”

The healthy spirit of self help serves to raise people from despair.

It  advances them in intelligence, virtue, and spiritual growth.

Four actions you need to take before you set out on the road to self help:
  1. Forgive yourself
  2. Forgive others
  3. Accept yourself
  4. Accept others

Samuel Smiles:
“The spirit of self-help is the root of all genuine growth in the individual.”

Jim Rohn:
“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plans. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.”

Whichever type or types of self help you choose it should:
  Be beneficial not harmful
  Improve your attitude
  Positively change your behavior
  Improve your environment
  Educate your subconsciousness
  Enlighten your consciousness
  Include self forgiveness
  Bring about self acceptance
  Improve your self esteem

Summary

Apply what you learn and make real the life you’ve always dreamed of living.

Too often we limit ourselves. How sad, when we could learn to live extraordinary lives.

We can be happier, healthier, and more prosperous. Find your source(s) of self help and go for it.

What Is Self Help

My title is Stephen Hill and I'm somebody who has managed to overcome a stutter which had affected my life for eighteen years. After I was at college, I would dread the time after I must learn out aloud in class out of a book. I'd rely down to which paragraph I must learn after which I'd look by to see which phrases I used to be going to have to say. I hoped that there would not be many words starting with b,d,v, or g, as I discovered these phrases particularly laborious to say. When speaking in a dialog I would always attempt to avoid these words or would think of an alternative phrase to say. When reading though, it's a must to read what's written. I had many unpleasant days trying to read and I'm now very happy these days are over.

Attempting to satisfy women and to get a girlfriend proved very tough and never because I am ugly. Law Of Attraction Self Esteem And Positive Thoughts

Make no mistake about it - when we consider goal setting forms : understanding how to use the subsonscious mind is something that can really change your life. The reason is that the things that we do as a habit force is actually based on what we do with our subconscious minds. We will see the results in our life in areas of self confidence as well as other ways. So what can we do ? we should begin with goal setting and specifically map out the things that we want to come about in our lives. When we do this then we will literally being to reprogram our inner minds and then we will being to do those things as a matter of habit that will take us closer to our goals.

Goal Setting Self Confidence

There are two different types of needs with regard to self esteem. Those needs need respect. The first is respect from other people, while the second is respect for himself (or we called it self respect). Those respects are said to motivate one’s esteem and influence the way of an individual sees himself.

Definition Number 1

People defined self esteem as a situation of an individual’s behavior based on his successes and powerlessnesss. But, this definition is no longer appropriate, as it implies that self esteem is temporary and fully depended on the recent situation of a person. In detail, someone has self worth when he is successful. But that self worth will be gone by the time he fails.

Definition Number 2

The next definition of self esteem is self worth which is solid and built through the years. It implies that someone’s self esteem is based on their competency to face any challenges and difficulties in life. It indicates that self esteem is inherent in one person and cannot be taken away easily by mere failures. The person views himself as someone with worth because of his accumulated success and even by his failures.

Measuring Self Esteem

To find out someone’s degree or level of self esteem, we have definitive procedures. Recently, there are two tests used for assessing a person’s self worth and self regard. The tests are in the written form, namely Rosenberg and Coopersmith Self Esteem Tests. Someone’s self worth will be analyzed through the questions in both tests. The numbers of questions in both tests are different. There are around ten questions in Rosenberg test and above fifty questions in Coopersmith test.

For some people, self esteem tests will make them suffering, chiefly people with high and low self esteem. Low self esteem in someone can direct him to the low confidence and insecurity. In the other hand, high self esteem can lead people to the situation of having too much self confidence. To change the situation of their self esteem is not an easy job, chiefly if someone is used to it. It is completely different from the common belief in society. They are sure that the situation of self esteem can be easily changed.

Learn The Power Of Conversational Hypnosis

After much intensive research, I have come to realize that there are actually no mysteries to breaking bad habits and keeping them out of your life.

And this article is written exactly for that purpose:

To dismiss your need to find new ways on how to break habits

Furnish you with concrete yet easy methods on developing positive habits in preparations for your future successes to come.

So what exactly is a habit? A simple search on the dictionary states that a habit is a recurring, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is learned through frequent repetitions.

Since it is us who acquire the learned, unconscious habits, it is also up to us to unlearn them. If the plan sounds feasible to you, then without further ado, let us go directly to the T.W.A.I.N steps, the 5 easy step by step formula on how to break habits.

1. Take Responsibility for All Your Habits

If you cannot control it, you cannot manage it. Any habits, good or bad are acquired by you, consciously or unconsciously. Thus, if you ever seek to stop bad habits, you must take ownership of them. Until you start recognizing that fact, you cannot go any further than where you are now.

2. Write Down All the Bad Habits You Want To Break Free Of

Next, look into all areas of your life and pick out all the bad habits which are hindering you in life. What are your addiction habits? Write them down on a piece of paper.

3. Acknowledge the Benefits Those Bad Habits Bring For You

As bad as those habits may seem, they actually bring you some benefits or gratifications. If not, you will not even acquire them in the first place. Thus, acknowledge them, write those rewards down beside them and give your heart-felt gratitude for their existence in your life.

4. Identify Your Plan of Attack

Next comes the time to decide on what new and more empowering habits you want to acquire in replace of the bad habits. You can try incorporating those benefits you find in Step 3 into your new habits. Just words of caution, not all "benefits" you elicit from Step 3 can be kept as they may be conflicting with the new ones.

5. Nag on One, Ignore the Rest

More often than not, you may attempt to change too many habits at one time. You will know better that replacing a habit take perspiration, persistence and patience. Scientists say that it takes 30 days for one to gain a new habit, however in my opinion, just take as long as you deem suitable. Just make it a point to constantly work on a particular new habit for at least 30 days before making a switch. Also, remember to work on it every day, consistently, persistently and patiently.

That is it! Who says the T.W.A.I.N methods on how to break habits is complicated.

However, as simple as they may look, they are not easy. Though they require some hard work, they are still very much achievable, if you have the desire.

Success leaves clues, here is a list of some of the success clues to look for:

12 Seeing hate and abuse from others as a gift you choose not to accept from them
13 Refuse to acknowledge failure and see it as a learning experience
14 Forge alliances with those who will commit to supporting your goals
15 Knowing that everyone has within them the resources to achieve their goals
16 Realising that success is a self motivational choice you make not made for you
17 Seeing money as a scorecard to the energy you create in the world not success itself
18 Respect others and their vision of success even when you can't agree with them
19 Living in the now and valuing every moment of every day
20 Valuing health as the great generator for a self motivational and successful life style

Of course, there are many factors which can influence what we become in life, but one of the most important key factors is commitment to attain whatever we have set our eyes on.
