I can't really understand, since that each human being is responsible for his or her own fate, and personal development techniques provide us some way to work through it.

There's always going to be critics and haters for everything and everyone. I mean, look at how many "God bashers" there are. You can even find people saying water is a bad thing, go figure.

A lot of them, however, probably just got sick and tired of trying something they learned from some self-help guru and failing. So they find it easier to just bash the whole industry. By making self-help a bad thing, it somehow makes them feel better about not living the life "self-help" promised they would experience.

Then there are people who are just skeptical, mainly out of fear of having their hopes up and seeing it crash. So they say those self-help people are just out to scam everyone and none of that stuff works, etc. They place blame on "it" and not themselves.

So don't even pay attention to those people. Keep improving yourself everyday. One day you will live the life you want while those people will still be bashing and complaining.

As most of the people believe that personal development is a positive way to improve in life, there are also people who find it difficult in accomplishing the techniques used for it. These are the people who are in need of a personal development plan. The personal-development plan is chalked out in a way that will help you figure out the areas that need improvement. Through this plan, you can also sketch out long term and short term goals that are realistic and will also identify the means to realize the changes that you would take in life. Finally, it will help you document the necessary steps that would be needed to follow the course of developing skills.

Personality development plan starts with identifying the areas that should be improved upon. You can start off with a list of areas in your life that you find difficult. Then carefully arrange the areas so that you find the most needed area of improvement to have a quick start. With this plan, you can concentrate on the areas that are written down and need to be changed and rather it would become a manageable way to track out changes and find out budding results.

NLP-A personality development technique

As there are a number of personality development techniques, NLP is also amongst them. NLP means Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It was a product of 1970s that was the idea of cognitive patterns in creating a form of reality, which by virtue of its ability was to be manipulated. The main goal was to support perceptions usually for the individual self with preferred outcomes like behavioral changes. Various supporters of NLP have put forward a number of theories and techniques that sought to put desiring shift in personal self image and to improve personal-development. Just like other ideas of personal development NLP was also taken by noted authorities who found new approaches to personal development.

Reiki-Personal development

Reiki is a technique that is used for getting solutions for problems and personal-development. This technique can be used if you need to try out some new ways to develop you personality and find it difficulty in solving problems. The main advantage of Reiki is that you work the technique on you and your family member and someone from a distance. This is also possible in the case of LTA personality-development technique. In the method of Reiki you work with energies from the universe while in the case of LTA personal-development technique the therapists work with their energies. For reiki and other related techniques the main difference is the fact that lies in thousands of issues that could not be managed or found a solution for but was treated with LTA and reiki method.

Psychology-Personal Development

The effect in developing psychology is that people show more understanding to each other. Not like the early days where people did not show any compassion with the abnormal and weak persons but today psychology has an identity for all kinds of personality learning difficulties or disorders.

From the moment a person is born he/she has a natural ability to know what it is they want and a belief that they can have it. We develop dreams and ambitions at a very early age. However as we grow older we are conditioned to believe that these dreams are not possible or are mere fantasies of our imagination. You are directed to get a good education so that you can find a good job that will allow you to get a mortgage, get married, have kids and live a 'normal' life. By the time most people reach their mid twenties they have all but given up on their dreams or even forgotten what those dreams are. They have become conditioned into believing that they are incapable of achieving what they want in life. This fundamental belief forms the foundation of their self image and the rest of their mental attitudes are build upon it!

It is the role of personal development and self improvement to remove these conditioned mental attitudes from your inner mind and free you to pursue the life course that you chose for yourself. BY using self improvement methods and personal development tools it is possible to begin removing today the negative mental programming you recieved from well-meaning peers, family, friends and teachers. In addition you will also be directed to remove all those negative mental attitudes that have been given to you by not so well-meaning people and those you have developed yourself through negative life experiences. Although this is not always an easy or pleasurable journey to take the rewards that you will experience from taking it are immeasurable and make it truly worthwhile.

The freedom that you can experience from removing just one negative mental and negative emotional pattern is akin to the feeling of rest and tranquillity you feel after extreme physical exercise. Removing numerous negative mental attitudes and emotional stress from your mind and body is a feeling and experience that is truly hard to describe to someone who has never experienced it themselves.

Jesus Christ said, "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you": Matthew 6:33. By removing the negative mental and emotional attitudes from your mind you free yourself to reach your goals. Let me explain.

Let us say you decide to set a goal to be financially free. There are thousands of different ways to achieve this goal. There are thousands of methods you could follow and plans you could set in motion that would bring you closer to this goal. Millions of people have gone from rags to riches. So, why does following a plan work for one person and the same plan will not work for another?

It is due entirely to the difference in attitude and mental conditioning!

There are at your disposal numerous personal development and self improvement methods that are designed to help you achieve this goal. Now these tools and methods are not designed to show you the way to become financially free but instead are designed to free you from your own inner resistance to being financially free. Many people think this is a waste of time and would prefer to be given step by step instructions to build financial wealth and I was once one of them. However, it didn't matter how much effort I used or how many 'guaranteed' formulas I followed my financial situations did not improve and many times actually grew worse.

Why was this? Were the plans I was following just not good enough to create wealth? Were the people peddling these rags to riches methods merely conning me out of my money? Was gaining wealth just pure luck like winning the lottery?

The answer to all of the above questions is no!

The plans I followed had worked for thousands and made them rich! The people selling me the products and methods had all made their fortunes using the very same techniques they were trying to teach me! It was only after a great deal of hradship and many learning lessons that I discovered the truth - gaining wealth has nothing to do with being lucky!

It wasn't that these things were not good enough to produce the wealth I craved it was that I THOUGHT I wasn't good enough. When you hold a negative self image and have a negative view of yourself and your abilities it is very difficuly to achieve success no matter how much effort you put into it! This is why it is of paramount importance to first remove the negative conditioning that is holding you back in life.

Your attitude, which is only composed of thoughts and feelings, is responsible for your actions. Thought is the creator of action! Every action you perform, no matter how small or big, first begins in your mind as a thought. Each thought begins as a feeling. Think of when you met your last partner. You first felt the attraction. This developed into a thought or series of thoughts about meeting the person. Then you performed some action to make that happen. Think of the last time you went out socializing. You had the feeling that you would like to have some fun, or be with your friends, were feeling lonely etc. Then you had the thought. Then you performed the action.

If your actions are motivated by your thoughts and feelings and your attitude is composed of thoughts and feelings do you think you could succeed at a given task if you hold a negative mental attitude about it or your ability to succeed at it?

Once you embrace personal development and begin to use any of the myriad of self improvement tools to remove your negative mental attitudes you will naturally find yourself becoming more successful in life. You actions will be more positive and you will unconsciously perform the correct actions that will lead you to success. I am sure you can know see how important it is to set some personal development goals. Not only will you see improvement in your self, you will also see many symptoms of success added unto you!

Personal Development Leads to Life Success

I am a great advocate of goals and goal setting tactics. However, many times goals can act as a barrier to your success rather than a tool for accomplishing your desires! Why this is so I will try to explain in this article and I will also endeavour to give you the best ways of combating this problem.

Although goal-setting has been proven to help launch you towards the success you desire many people fail to reach their goals and therefore they become a block to their future success. This is because we tend to set up beliefs based on prior experience. If you reach a goal and see the fruits of your labour come to pass you will have positive beliefs about goal-setting. If, on the other hand, you have tried and failed numerous times to reach goals you probably have a very negative view about goal-setting. This view, or belief, will seriously damage any future attempt to reach your desires.

For this reason I believe most of your major goals should be of a personal development nature. By striving to better yourself and your understanding of how your mind works you will eliminate many of the causes for goal-failure!

The most common reason for failing to reach your goals lies in over-confidence. Setting objectives that are too high or too far from where you are now, without having a proper, reasonable and realistic plan to reach them is like trying to fish in the Sahara.

Goals need to be reasonable. There is nothing you cannot accomplish but in order to get to a place, within yourself, where you are capable of achieving big goals you must set some foundations!

You set the necessary solid foundations for achieving your goals by becoming a person capable of achieving them! This means developing the skills and knowledge you need to attain your desire. An example of this would be setting a goal to be CEO of a company in 2 years when you don't even work for them! Setting a goal to become a millionaire in 2 years when you currently have no job is equally as unrealistic!

You should start with stepping-stone goals. They should be easy enough to achieve but should require some work on your part. At the same time you should set personal development goals that help you improve as a person. For example, you should set a personal development goal to find and eliminate all the negative beliefs you hold about achieving your objectives.

Harbouring negative beliefs, thoughts and emotions that impinge upon your goals is always a major reason for failing to achieve your objectives. Goal-setting and personal development should always go hand-in-hand!

By developing a strong character and belief in yourself, your abilities and your deservedness to reach your goals is a strong defence against doubt, fear, the desire to give-up and failure!

A great personal development way to reach your goals is visualization. Most people fail to understand the awesome power and effectiveness of this very easy to use technique. It is important that YOU do not get caught in this mindset. In your mind's eye imagine what it will be like when you have already achieved your goal. Muster up all the positive feelings that you will experience when this mental movie is reality. Step into that image in your head and feel it as though it were reality now. Through simple visualization tactics you can ensure you stay motivated in your goal-achieving activities. You will have seen, felt and experienced the very thing you are working towards and you will also increase you belief in the possibility of attaining it!

Use goals in this way and you will be assured of success while at the same time bettering yourself in every area through personal development.

Achieving Success With Personal Development

We've written before about Impact Factory's brand of Professional Personal Development (Professional Personal Development What is it?), but we're just going to take a little side step here to talk about the broader issue of Personal Development.

This is because there's an awful lot of talk about personal development and for some people, they're not quite sure how it relates to them. Often when we become adults, learn new skills, have a job, a relationship (or not), friends, colleagues, we're pretty much set in who we are, how we think and behave and what the nature of our emotional selves is.

Common myths. And myths they are if you look at the gentler, more humane way to approach personal development. It shouldn't be wrenching; you don't need to have an 'epiphany' and change your ways forever; it should be a natural evolution of who you already are, not a tearing apart and a putting back together again.

Although Impact Factory primarily works with people in the workplace, the issues surrounding personal development are the same in any area of your life.

And here are a few reasons why:

Reverting to type and dealing with the feelings

What is very clear to anyone that works with people is that under pressure, people will 'revert to type'. In normal circumstances, when there's no pressure, everyone knows how they would like to deal with things differently. However, when decisions need to be made quickly, when things aren't working as you would wish, when others become more demanding, most people under stress will behave as they always have. They will not have the time, nor will they make the time to weigh and measure their options.

What they will do is react to the current situation and do what they've always done to get a speedy result. What they have always done may not - often is not - the most appropriate choice to make; but it seems to be the only one available to them at the time. It is in hindsight that other options become clear.

People cannot help reverting to type. It is how the species has survived: when a mastodon came into view, people didn't take time to ponder their options; they acted immediately. That vital mechanism is within us all: under threat we will react without conscious thought in order to survive.

However, without well-developed people skills, pressurised communication in all areas of our lives can look like bullying or blaming where it's easier to accuse or order someone around rather than encourage. It can mean that people will avoid conflict and back down from useful confrontation where differences could get resolved. People will make incorrect assumptions and then act on them. Reverting to type can also mean avoiding getting support from others because you feel you have to do everything yourself.

When people revert to type, they are usually driven by their feelings, and it will usually be feelings that get in the way of being able to change behaviour constructively. Most people know how they would like to behave, so teaching the ‘how to' is not at issue here.

Feelings that can get in the way of effectiveness can be anything from nervousness about presenting, to fear of humiliation for saying something stupid, to being intimidated by a particular person who seems to wrong-foot you all the time. Feelings can make you shy away from handling tricky situations from saying no to Christmas dinner with the parents to asking for a raise or communicating more honestly with a colleague.

At Impact Factory we address the fact that at times (more often than not) uncomfortable feelings will make it difficult, if not impossible, to create the outcome you want. Otherwise, people are trying to cope with new information and new techniques without acknowledging that their emotions can, at times, stop them making any change whatsoever.

That's not personal development, and trying to learn new things without that essential acknowledgement usually means the learning won't stick.

Changing yourself to change others

We hear over and over again in people's personal and work lives that things would be much better if only someone else would change the way they do things. "If my sister wasn't so stubborn, we'd have a much easier relationship." "I'd get on much better if only my line manager would give me more time to get things done." "My job would be easier if only my secretary was more efficient." "My parents are so frustrating; if only they would start treating me like an adult."

In these and many other examples, the solution seems to rest with someone else. Therefore, the responsibility for moving things forward rests with others as well. There will always be situations where life would be far better if someone else would just shape up and do things the way we think they ought to be done! However, that attitude puts all the power and influence into someone else's hands and leaves us feeling impotent and often inadequate. You can have a good moan, but nothing changes.

Changing what you do, changing the way you speak to others, changing your attitude towards recurring difficulties will change the normally predictable outcome.

When we talk about change, we are looking for simple changes; tweaks, adjustments, small alterations, rather than looking to change everything about a person. At Impact Factory we talk about the least amount of change for the greatest impact. Striving for small but effective changes rather than complete transformation.

That's' how true personal development needs to happen: not massive life-changing upheaval, but easily manageable, incremental changes that don't require you to change everything about yourself (or expect everyone else to change as well).

When we work with people's personal development on our workshops we make it easy and enjoyable and filled with variety, so that there is ‘something for everyone'. What works for one person, won't necessarily work for others. We believe that the way forward is to find a few things that you know you'll be able to do, to have fun doing them and to experience enough small wins as you practise them. These are the things you'll be able to remember in the heat of a difficult situation. You will revert to a new type that feels familiar because it's developed from who you already are, not about becoming someone you'll never be!

Real life, not make believe

Here's one way that we do that: we use real-life, everyday situations that people encounter on the job or in their personal lives, rather than giving people made up, textbook scenarios they then have to ‘act out'. Working with real issues helps people recognise and understand their feelings rather than ignoring them or wishing they would go away.

We know that if you spend time learning and developing new skills on a course there needs to be a realistic bridge between the workshop room and real life.

We always ask people to bring in their own experiences - a challenging presenting situation, a recurring difficult person or problem, an upcoming meeting, etc. Within those real-life scenarios, we use some of the tools and techniques that the individual has practised during the training and has already found works for them.

By letting people work on their specific issues and then incorporating their favourite techniques into the re-enactments, they get to choose what they feel able to do, rather than ones they ought to do.

And if we could sum up our entire philosophy in one word it would be: choice.

When people feel they have choice, they feel more confident and better able to deal with the ordinary and the extraordinary of work and personal life.

The second step to effective personal development is establishing a list of goals. You must figure out exactly where you want to be in life and when exactly do you plan to have it accomplished. The goal setting is the easiest part of personal development. It helps define what you want, where you will get it from, and when you plan to have it. You will already have found that you have created an introductory set of goals when you first started on your personal development strategy. Here is where you will go over your personal goals, eliminate the ones that will not help you meet your end goal, and keep the ones that will help you discover true personal satisfaction.

After you have your goals, figure out which ones are short-term goals, or one to five year goals, and which are long term, five to ten year goals. This will aid in the creation of the specific patterns and habits you will have to alter to meet your goals. The third step to personal development is choosing your course of action. This is the part where you actually strive to obtain your goals. This is the most difficult part of personal development. To satisfy your short-term goals, develop personal habits. For a financial goal, develop a savings pattern. For other goals, like perhaps trying to curse less or attend church more, develop habits that will aid in this goal. Develop a reward and punishment system for each goal. For long term goals, the approach is similar. Develop personal habits and patterns that will aid in the satisfaction of these goals as well.

Most importantly, though, be patient and understand success will not come overnight and it will take time, practice, and dedication before you find yourself exactly where you plan to be. Although personal development is one of the most sought after development plans, it is very stressful. Lifestyles and personal habits will need to be changed or eliminated. However in the end, you will find the greatest satisfaction in knowing you yourself, have accomplished exactly what you set out to do. That is a tremendous feeling and one well worth the effort.
